Who is RocketBoy? Thats me, Bryan Schmidt. I am a graphic designer in the Dallas area. My design approach is to create a story. Each story is different and reaches an entirely different audience, but they all have to be clear, imaginative, and connect on some emotional level. Its about maximizing the impact of the presented information rather than creating background noise. I am continuously looking to educate myself on new methods, trends (or knowing when to avoid them), and software, so that my designs will always be relevant and effective.Why RocketBoy? I chose the name RocketBoy after much brainstorming of potential names and some terrible ones too (crazyrobotkillerdesign. Ok, that one isnt real). Ive always had a love for science fiction and the thought of space exploration and it ties really well into my passion of discovering design. There are so many different aspects of design that each area is like a new planet (imagine planet Typo-12 & Hierarchia) waiting to be explored. My journey to design was a long one. When I was a small child and early morning cartoons were my great inspiration I would often draw my favorite characters. My imagination could not be contained to simply copy others creations so I would make my own characters and craft stories about them in my head. I would continue to draw into adulthood moving on to realistic portraits, but character creation would always be a favorite of mine. Then came the day when I downloaded a trial version of Adobe Illustrator (previously I used MS Paint, no joke) with the hope that I could make my characters digital. Not only did it bring life to my creations, but also it shifted the ship in a new direction. There were so many tools that I had to look up what they all did. It was the thirst for knowledge that led me to a different form of creative expression and communication. Graphic design took over my passion and creativity. My designs are like the characters I once created, they all have a story to tell.
